Letter from the Directors

“Dear Friends,

We greet you with much enthusiasm and say thank you in advance for reading this letter carefully and discovering efforts being excellently provided by OHED members in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In fact, we would like to inform you that OHED is a non-profit organization and its members are working with visible and high determination as volunteers. OHED mission is to alleviate poverty, hunger, conflicts, illiteracy and diseases through implementing bicycle, education and development programs and conducting regular vocational trainings for building the capacities of underprivileged and marginalized community groups (including women and girls). As a team, we have long believed that change begins when people are informed, active and willing to assist each other and when they remain united and engaged in working hard.

Now, we appreciate the way target communities are supporting and encouraging OHED members in their work in the DR Congo. We also recognize the great importance of our collaboration with government authorities and willingness of partners and volunteering members in helping vulnerable communities through our own contributions and capacities. Therefore, we call upon each and every one to support with advice and push OHED members to move ahead and promote charity programs in both rural and urban areas of the DR Congo. When we founded the OHED NGO in 2007 and legalized it at the concerned central government office in 2014, it was with the goal of bringing fresh ideas and reframing debates around the many pressing issues and challenges of our times. In the fifteen years since, the OHED NGO has efficiently reduced the perils of indigenous people, IDPs and refugees; questioned the practices of international aid and sustainable development schemes; shared the stories of impacted communities worldwide; elevated solutions such as the successes of agriculture through capacity building training; and much more.
The thread throughout this work has been meticulous research and an unwavering commitment to human wellbeing in the DR Congo. Today, the OHED NGO is a go-to resource for durable solutions and policy analysis on a wide variety of social, economic, and environmental concerns. But more than that, the OHED NGO has become a go-to sustainable development for the most underprivileged householders in operational zones. We just say many thanks to the Almighty God for our various successes. Congolese communities are reaching out and asking us to continue supporting them in their fights against poverty, hunger, illiteracy, conflicts and diseases for their welfare and livelihoods. In December 2022, we were approached by a group of IDPs in the South Kivu Province, displaced from their homes due to armed conflicts. The latter petitioned us to help them with advocacy to the government and concerned international agencies and/or organizations for quick assistance and voluntary return to their villages. However, we advised them that before moving back home, they should join OHED TRAINING CENTERS, get quality education and think about their prosperous future after acquiring knowledge.

More recently, underprivileged householders in other provinces of the DR Congo have also reached out and sought our assistance despite the lack of charity people who can support the OHED NGO programs. It is with humility that, as permanent members, we actually declare the OHED NGO has become not just an example for policy makers, but a think reservoir for the marginalized and forgotten people. As we look back over 2015, it is clear that OHED work is having a very positive impact. In November 2022, we reported rampant poverty, famine, illiteracy and diseases in Fizi, Shabunda and Kalehe territories and helped the affected families with advocacies to Congolese government and concerned NGOs. Meanwhile, we contributed resources for assisting them and enhancing the living conditions.

However, no one is until now recognizing our efforts or supporting us in our enormous work which aims to durably solve social and economic problems amongst the vulnerable Congolese communities. We are so grateful to our local committed supporters, who habitually allow us to perform our tasks nimbly and effectively despite the most pressing challenges we are facing on ground. We literally couldn’t do this work without them. Therefore, we can just say “Thank you so much and may the Almighty God bless them all”
To end up, we kindly wish you all the best and hope that OHED NGO will remain one of your priorities in the upcoming days.

With a lot of gratitude and in solidarity for the Long Determination, Effort, Charity and Excellency!
OHED Board of Directors
DR Congo-Central Africa”

ASSESSMENT OF ACTIVITIES ON DAILY BASIS

In order for OHED to be effective, it needs to have a clearly defined purpose, or ‘Mission’, to guide it as it carries out its activities over the short and medium terms. It also needs a clear sense of what it hopes to achieve over the longer term or ‘Vision’ for the future. Without a clear Mission and Vision, OHED risks drifting away from its original purpose and failing to achieve its goals. Likewise, OHED is governed and managed in the interests of its target beneficiaries.

To ensure that this is the case, and to give confidence to all who put their trust in OHED, the organization has maintained transparency. Its accounts must be clear, appropriately supported by external audits, and available to all who are interested. To achieve these high standards, OHED is guided by a Board of Directors.

This Board normally oversees management and ensures that the organization’s policies and programs are being carried out as they were intended to be since the starting time.
