Games and Sports

GAMES AND OHED FOOTBALL CLUB (OFC)

Sports (including basketball, volleyball, handball, crickets, rugby and football) are beneficial for children, adults and OHED members’ mental and physical well-being.

Not only can sports help to strengthen bones and tone muscles, but they can also help children and adults improve their work performance and teach them the value of teamwork, social cohesion and pacific cohabitation. Additional benefits of Sports are as follows : Better self-esteem, Exercise, Improved leadership skills, Stronger relationships, Better communication and Time management skills.

Games and Sports enhance social relationships : OHED members who are very much engaged in sports’ activities have a bonding capability ; they work as a team and this teaches them how to strengthen solidarity which is also an important parameter of community life.

Sports teach OHED members to be emotionally strong. Most members often have to deal with some of the emotional issues in their life, either at home or in fields. The skill they develop through OHED sports helps them to accept all defeats as well as wins. OHED members who love games and sports are in a much better position to deal with tough situations when carrying out education and development activities in areas affected by conflicts of armed groups.

Sports help OHED members and other community groups build skills, have a great career,  get good health conditions and eliminate stress when performing their tasks, especially in risky zones or hotspots.

Sports teach also the values of each member’s role on the OHED programs. This is arguably the greatest value because members belong to teams and normally have something that serves as a lesson to learn. They also share skills, experiences and behaviors for their success. OHED members have got football, basketball, volleyball and handball teams which help young people improve their skills and prevent them from joining armed groups and other banditry gangs.

At OHED EDUCATION CENTER, young people normally get sensitized on peace, stability, social cohesion and sustainable development before playing any game.
They also get united through receiving advice given by team representatives. OHED needs enough materials (such as balls, jerseys, nets, etc.) to develop sport programs which facilitate the dissemination of peace and stability messages in areas affected by armed conflicts and wars.
